Unilateral 30-Day Visa-Free Entry for Ordinary Passports
- Stay rule
- Up to 30 consecutive calendar days, counted from the day after entry.
- Where it applies
- Mainland China, subject to lawful entry and any separately applicable local travel requirements.
- Hold a valid ordinary passport whose validity is sufficient for the trip; the MFA FAQ excludes travel documents, temporary documents and emergency documents that are not ordinary passports from this waiver.
- The visit must match an allowed purpose and admission is subject to inspection by the border authorities. The FAQ recommends carrying supporting documents such as an invitation and flight or hotel bookings.
- No advance declaration to a Chinese embassy or consulate is required under the FAQ, but all eligibility conditions still apply.
- Travelers planning to stay beyond 30 days should obtain the appropriate visa before travel. After entry, a traveler with a legitimate reason to remain should apply to the public security exit-entry administration for the appropriate stay document.
- Check the country-specific validUntil value and the current FAQ before booking; no renewal or extension of the published policy period is assumed.

240-Hour Visa-Free Transit through Designated Ports and Areas
- Stay rule
- No more than 240 hours (10 days), starting at 00:00 on the day after entry.
- Where it applies
- Only the permitted stay areas associated with the designated ports; this is not a nationwide 10-day tourist waiver.
- Be a citizen of one of the 57 listed countries and hold a valid ordinary passport. The NIA application conditions require the travel document to have at least three months of validity and require the traveler to meet the third country or region's entry conditions.
- Hold a confirmed interline onward ticket or accepted supporting document with a specified date and itinerary to a third country or region within 240 hours. A direct round trip returning to the origin does not satisfy the third-country-or-region route condition.
- Use the current official table to check the intended port and its permitted stay area. Entry is available through 65 designated ports in 24 provincial-level regions; activity is limited to the prescribed areas and is not nationwide.
- Apply for temporary entry with the border inspection authority at the port, complete the required arrival card for temporary-entry foreigners, and cooperate with inspection and questioning.
- The 240-hour period starts at 00:00 on the day after entry. Confirm the complete origin–China–onward route and port/area combination with the NIA or border authority before travel.

Hainan Province 30-Day Visa-Free Entry
- Stay rule
- Up to 30 days within Hainan Province, starting at 00:00 on the day after entry.
- Where it applies
- Hainan Province administrative region only; this scheme does not authorize travel elsewhere in Mainland China.
- Hold an ordinary passport issued by one of the 61 listed countries and enter and exit through an open port in Hainan Province.
- Remain within Hainan Province's administrative region for activities under this scheme. Do not use this regional path for itineraries elsewhere in Mainland China.
- The visit must be for tourism, business, visits, family visits, medical treatment, conferences or exhibitions, sports competitions, or another covered short-term purpose. Work and study are excluded by the NIA policy.
- The stay is calculated from 00:00 on the day after entry. Where a bilateral agreement or another Chinese visa-waiver policy applies, its provisions may govern instead.
