Shenzhen is easier to explore when you group nearby sights together. Browse Shenzhen attractions to choose your stops, start with the five-day itinerary and keep your visit dates in the Shenzhen planner. The city stretches a long way from west to east: allow separate time for Nanshan and Shekou, central Futian, Longgang and Dapeng.

When to come and what can change

Late autumn through early spring is usually easier for parks and long neighbourhood walks. Hot, humid periods call for shorter outdoor segments, water and indoor breaks. Heavy rain and typhoons can suspend theme-park rides, close exposed waterfronts and disrupt transport; check the official weather service on the day rather than relying on a seasonal average.

Transport and payment

The metro is the default for most cross-city travel. Overseas bank cards can be used at station customer-service POS terminals to buy tickets. Separately, Shenzhen Metro announced that from 10 September 2026 all gates support eligible international bank cards for tap-to-ride; this is a newer, distinct option, not something to infer from the older ticket-purchase facility. Check your card network, contactless function and issuer fees, and keep a backup payment method.

For taxis and ride-hailing, allow buffer time in rain and peak periods. A map distance can understate the effort of reaching Dapeng or combining Fairy Lake, Dafen and Gankeng. Keep one primary sight per remote area and remove optional stops when transfers run late.

Crossing to or from Hong Kong

Hong Kong has separate immigration and visa arrangements from mainland China. Carry the passport and any visa, permit or travel document required for both sides and for re-entry to your next destination; a mainland Chinese visa alone is not permission to enter Hong Kong. Check the Shenzhen Port Office for current port hours and temporary arrangements, and allow time for two border processes plus onward transport. Do not plan the last train or bus solely around an ideal immigration queue.

Dapeng driving reservations

Dapeng vehicle reservations are road-access controls, not attraction tickets. The official 2026 notice covers affected small vehicles on weekends and statutory holidays from 1 May through 7 October. It must not be applied permanently or copied to future years. Recheck the latest traffic-police notice for your exact date, vehicle and control zone; use confirmed public transport or change plans if a required reservation is unavailable.

Distance and pacing

D1’s Futian sights and D2’s Nanshan/Shekou sights are relatively coherent clusters. Dapeng is a full eastern day, while Fairy Lake, Dafen and Gankeng form a deliberately reducible route. Public parks and streets are separate from indoor museums and commercial venues: check each exhibition, performance and ticket product on its own terms.
