Guangzhou rewards travelers who combine neighborhood walks with planned venue visits. Keep Yongqing Fang, Shamian and Beijing Road flexible, and check tickets and opening hours separately for museums, religious sites, towers and performances. Browse Guangzhou attractions to choose the places that suit your trip.

Plan five days

The five-day Guangzhou itinerary groups the Yuexiu historic axis, Xiguan and Shamian, the new central axis, and a separate outdoor or resort day. Add a start date to the booking planner to organize visit dates and ticket reminders. If a booking schedule is not listed, check it with the venue; you may still need a reservation.

Timing and weather

Cooler months are generally easier for long walks, but do not treat a season label as a forecast. Guangzhou’s official tourism safety notices warn that heavy rain, short-duration high winds and lightning require itinerary changes. Check official weather and emergency warnings before Baiyun Mountain, riverfront walks, Shawan or Chimelong; move to a confirmed indoor venue during severe conditions.

Transport, cards and payment

The metro links most central clusters, while Panyu, Changzhou Island and outer districts need longer transfers. Do not schedule a full Chimelong park as a half-day add-on. Keep a charged phone and an alternative payment method for small purchases and transport.

A November 2025 municipal briefing says nearly 400 Guangzhou metro stations and about 9,000 gates had enabled foreign-card contactless tap-to-ride. This does not guarantee that every overseas card, issuing bank or wallet will work. Enable overseas and contactless transactions before travel, look for the supported gate symbols, and keep an official ticket-machine or staffed-counter fallback. This facility concerns the physical card transaction; it is not proof that every mobile wallet is accepted.

Hotels and registration

Carry your original valid passport or travel document. Guangzhou’s accommodation-registration rules require hotels to register guests, and the official regulation describes public-security procedures for temporary identity certification when a traveller lacks valid documents. Confirm directly that your accommodation can lawfully host and register you, especially for apartments or informal stays; a paid booking alone is not proof of registration capability. Keep the registration information available during your stay.

Canton Fair periods

The Canton Fair changes hotel demand, prices and traffic around Pazhou. The official 140th session runs in 2026 on October 15–19, October 23–27 and October 31–November 4. Tourists cannot assume entry to the trade fair; buyer credentials and event admission are separate. For later sessions, use the official fair calendar rather than reusing these dates, and allow extra hotel and transport planning during fair periods.

Reservations and religious sites

Guangdong Museum, the two Nanyue King exhibition areas and other museums operate independently. Public access to a district never covers every museum or performance within it. Chen Clan Ancestral Hall’s current ticket process, and current visitor rules for Sacred Heart Cathedral and the Temple of the Six Banyan Trees, were not fully verified; the city guides mark those uncertainties instead of importing third-party rules. Worship and ceremonies take precedence at active religious venues.
