What to look for at Ancient Canal and Nandajie

The canal edge, Xiyingli and the commercial streets reveal how an old transport corridor meets today’s city. It is best read as a neighborhood route, with bridges and waterside views connecting separate buildings.

The 2026 municipal introduction names Bijixiang/Comb Lane, Xiyingmen city wall, Minyuanli, Shuangguifang and Chongfa Temple as components of the wider canal–Nandajie destination. It also defines a district extending between major city streets and the old canal. Choose two compatible cultural focuses and a waterside segment; five named precincts do not need to become a compulsory interior checklist. A modern commercial street and a preserved canal structure tell different parts of the same city story.

Build a route that ends at the right place

Begin around Xiyingli, follow the accessible canal-side streets, and finish near Nandajie for food. Qingguo Lane can be added with a real walking and crossing buffer.

Begin around Xiyingli/Xiyingmen, establish which wall and canal paths are actually open, then walk a compact route toward Bijixiang or Nandajie. Pause for interpretation of comb-making or the surviving city fabric where a confirmed display is available. Use Shuangguifang as an optional food-area finish rather than adding a distant dinner reservation that forces a rushed return. A boat route must be checked at its actual pier, including its end point; it is not automatically a transport link to Canal 5 or Qingguo Lane.

Plan 2–3 hours for the stated visitor focus. This is an editorial allowance; queues and a separately described county-city journey need their own buffer.

Admission evidence and product boundaries

A district listing does not create an all-inclusive ticket. Boat rides, heritage interiors, exhibitions and restaurants operate independently.

The actual 7 April 2026 city introduction was checked for the named precincts and district geography, along with the local public-service street description. These are destination introductions, not a universal admission or current wall/climb/boat schedule. Current enclosed-site tickets, cruises, exhibitions and passport handling remain unknown. Ask specifically for the Xiyingmen wall section, a named cultural interior or a boat product. An open Nandajie shopping street does not establish access to every temple, former residence or industrial exhibit within the rated area.

A named alternative when the plan changes

If a wall section or cruise closes, retain the confirmed street-and-canal land route and choose a shorter loop back to the same pickup. Canal 5 is a different named industrial-reuse district requiring a local transfer; it is not the same exhibition campus. Qingguo Lane offers another old-city residential/literary walk in suitable weather. If the water routes are unsafe, move them and use Changzhou Museum on an operating day rather than following an unmarked bank-side shortcut.
