Make this route your own

Use these days as a starting point and adjust the pace to suit you. Check the linked attraction guides for reservations and closures, and allow a full day for longer outings. Confirm weather and tickets before setting off.

Choose one route for each day with alternatives below. Only its listed stops are imported. Optional stops stay in the guide, and opening days still need checking for your dates.

Choose which visits to shorten or replace. Check the experience’s address and conditions, and arrange meals, shows or workshops separately. The booking planner saves the listed attraction visits.

DAY1

Fenhe west bank

Provincial history and a short river walk

Planner route: Provincial history and a short river walk.

Planner stops: Shanxi Museum + Fenhe River Scenic Area.

Places mentioned in this day's guide:

  1. Morning: Make Shanxi Museum the main visit after confirming its current access and selected branch.
  2. Afternoon: Use a short nearby Fenhe path section in suitable weather. The bronze branch is a separate destination with its own arrangements.
  3. Evening: keep dinner and the return to your base flexible; do not add another distant ticketed visit.
If the plan changes

If the museum closes or is full, check the Coal Museum independently; do not assume branch admission transfers.

DAY2

Yingze / Xinghualing

Central courtyards and merchant history

Planner route: Central courtyards and merchant history.

Planner stops: Chunyang Palace Museum + Jin Merchant Museum.

Places mentioned in this day's guide:

  1. Morning: Visit Chunyang's open courts and art displays, allowing for the current museum layout.
  2. Afternoon: Continue to the Jin Merchant Museum only if its own admission is confirmed, then leave time for a central street break.
  3. Evening: keep dinner and the return to your base flexible; do not add another distant ticketed visit.
If the plan changes

If one museum closes, retain the other and a public neighborhood walk; do not force a third distant institution.

DAY3

Jinyuan southwest

Jinci as the day's architectural focus

Planner route: Jinci as the day's architectural focus.

Planner stops: Jinci and Tianlongshan Scenic Area.

Places mentioned in this day's guide:

  1. Morning: Give Jinci's buildings and gardens an unhurried main visit.
  2. Afternoon: Tianlongshan is optional only with its own confirmed access, transport and sufficient time; the shared A-level unit does not establish a single admission.
  3. Evening: keep dinner and the return to your base flexible; do not add another distant ticketed visit.
If the plan changes

If mountain access closes, keep Jinci when open and return early instead of seeking unofficial grotto access.

DAY4

Jinyuan

One southwestern landscape and a town option

These are alternatives. The planner adds only the stops in your chosen option.

Places mentioned in this day's guide:

  1. Morning: Choose the Botanical Garden as the main daytime visit, checking greenhouse inclusion.
  2. Afternoon: Add a short Ancient County Town lane walk only if time permits; Mengshan is an alternative full outdoor day.
  3. Evening: keep dinner and the return to your base flexible; do not add another distant ticketed visit.
If the plan changes

If weather closes the landscape, use an indoor city museum after checking availability. Do not combine Jinci, Mengshan and the garden in one day.

DAY5

Wanbailin / Yingze east

Coal history and a flexible twin-pagoda finish

These are alternatives. The planner adds only the stops in your chosen option.

Places mentioned in this day's guide:

  1. Morning: Visit the Coal Museum with a confirmed product and understand the limits of its immersive components.
  2. Afternoon: If energy and weather permit, travel to Shuangta Park for permitted pagoda views; temple entry is a separate question.
  3. Evening: keep dinner and the return to your base flexible; do not add another distant ticketed visit.
If the plan changes

If the eastern park is affected by weather, retain the museum day only; Qinglong Ancient Town requires a different whole-day substitution.

Find a day that suits you

Browse more Taiyuan attractions for an alternative. Check its reservations, opening days and travel time before adding it to your plan.

Full guides for possible swaps

These are alternatives to consider, not extra stops to add to the same day. Check locations and transfer times before replacing an itinerary stop; a distant excursion may need a full day.
