Start with the local craft
Save 唐三彩, Tang sancai, and 三彩小镇, Sancai Town. Luoyang’s October 2026 cultural-exchange reporting describes the craft alongside contemporary objects, while a local study-tour platform describes making activities. These establish a craft setting and examples of participation. They do not mean every souvenir shop teaches the process or every class is available to independent visitors.
Ask which process you will try
A short session may decorate a prepared object, model clay or introduce another part of the ceramic process. Ask the provider to describe the actual steps and show the result. Painting a ready-made blank is different from applying ceramic glaze and firing it. A colorful object is not enough to establish how it was made or whether it is intended for decorative or functional use.
Check firing and handover before choosing the design
Ask whether the piece needs a kiln, how long finishing takes and whether you can collect it before departure. Confirm who handles firing and what happens if a piece is damaged during that process. Delivery, packing and any overseas shipment must be part of a clear separate agreement. If you need a same-day souvenir, choose only an activity whose handover has been confirmed.
Keep the venue and museum plans distinct
Use the exact studio or operator address; Sancai Town, Luoyi Ancient City and the city’s major museums are not interchangeable entrances. The existing Luoyang Museum guide records a closure, and this craft outing does not establish reopening. Do not book a closed museum as an automatic introduction before the lesson. Choose another independently confirmed exhibition or keep the studio as the sole major activity.

Ask about the task, kiln, completion and total. If buying a finished item, request its material and production description and whether it is decorative. A modern reproduction is not an ancient object. If no session can be confirmed, choose a current craft display or a permitted old-city walk rather than expecting a school-group product to supply a teacher on demand.
