A specific route

The Overseas Transportation History Museum is the specialist place to connect Quanzhou’s ships, overseas communities, religious stonework and trading networks. Its main campus is at 425 Donghu Street. The official city gallery account locates the Song-Yuan world-maritime-trade overview exhibition on the main building’s ground floor; use that to frame an editorial two-to-three-hour first visit, then choose a deeper ship-history or stone-carving theme according to the galleries presently admitted. This approach explains why temples, bridges and production sites across the region belong to one port system, rather than treating maritime history as a display of ship models alone.

Confirm the intended building and current galleries, prioritize maritime history and add a second venue only with its own admission check.

Entry and component boundaries

The Song Ship Museum inside Kaiyuan Temple at 176 West Street is a separate branch. If seeing the excavated ship is your priority, name that branch explicitly when asking about admission; do not assume it is in the Donghu Street building. The temple’s published no-reservation guidance does not establish museum access, and a main-campus slot does not prove a branch booking. The 2025 development commission approval for a new maritime exhibition building is also not an opening announcement. It cannot justify promising a completed new gallery, declaring the old campus closed or moving the visitor entrance without a later operational notice.

Main collection entry, branches, special exhibitions, lectures and group activities can differ.

If access or weather changes

Confirm the intended campus, available permanent galleries and individual-entry process before traveling. The September 2026 bureau report describes reserved guiding, which should remain separate from an admission reservation; its student promotion ended in September. No current foreign-passport workflow, release clock or universal branch schedule was verified. If the main museum is unavailable, a separately admitted municipal museum can provide broader city context; the Song Ship branch may offer a more focused alternative only if its own access is confirmed. In a wet old-city day, do not travel across town merely on the assumption that the main museum is always open: first obtain the practical answer for that campus.
