What to look for at Hai’an Museum and Han Guojun Residence

The museum and former-residence setting introduce a different county-city history north of Nantong. Domestic architecture and local collections are the main reasons to make the trip.

The 2026 Hai’an tourism-authority introduction explicitly makes this a two-part destination: Han Guojun’s former residence and the new Hai’an Museum building immediately east of it. The residence offers a domestic-architecture and biographical route, while the new building follows local history. The municipal heritage description also names Han’s life, residence architecture, works, Qingdun culture and collection displays as interpretive themes. Choose those subjects deliberately rather than expecting a single house photograph to represent both institutions.

Build a route that ends at the right place

Confirm the public venue, see the open historic rooms and local-history displays, then allow time for Hai’an’s own center before returning.

Use 58-8 Ninghai North Road, the museum’s own locator. Start with the open residence sequence—gates, connected halls and courtyards—then allow a separate substantial session in the new building. If only one component is open, decide whether that focus still justifies the county-city journey. The Qingdun Site Museum appears in the institution’s branch navigation but is a separate locality; a shared management website does not make it an adjoining room or a free transport extension.

Plan 2–3 hours plus transfer for the stated visitor focus. This is an editorial allowance; queues and a separately described county-city journey need their own buffer.

Admission evidence and product boundaries

Residence rooms, museum galleries, special exhibitions and events may use separate sessions.

The actual 10 February 2026 municipal two-part introduction, museum-branded site and visitor-conduct page were read. The website’s time and reservation links were followed, but redirected/failed with decoding or access errors, so a current complete hours/reservation/passport specification was not established. Those fields remain unknown. Ask whether your visit is to Han’s residence, the new building or a branch, and whether a group activity needs separate reporting. Valid-document conduct or security requirements do not prove a working online passport-registration route.

A named alternative when the plan changes

If the residence closes, the new museum building is the closest named alternative only if independently operating; the reverse also applies. If both components are unavailable, move Hai’an rather than assuming Qingdun Site Museum is immediately nearby. Shuihui Garden in Rugao is another heritage excursion with a separate county-city transfer, while Nantong Museum is a main-city collection day under its own admission. Keep the correct return station and transport in the plan, not just a generic ‘Nantong’ destination.
