The historic reclamation-company site links the coast’s transformation to Nantong’s modern enterprise history. It is a specialist heritage excursion rather than a beach resort.

This is a reconstructed historic-company site in Haifu Town, Qidong, not an untouched original office compound. The city’s specific account explains that the buildings were recreated at the original locality to interpret Zhang Jian’s reclamation and agricultural-development project. That distinction is central to a useful visit: read the site as historical interpretation of coastal land, water control and enterprise, rather than assuming every visible wall and room survives from the company’s founding period.

Build a route that ends at the right place

Confirm which buildings admit independent visitors, follow the open interpretation route and retain time for the return from Qidong.

Confirm the public visitor center and exhibition route in Haifu before traveling. Begin with the company’s development story, then compare any displayed maps, documents or models with the reconstructed courtyard layout. A 2023 exhibition account names shares, documents, maps and books as interpretive objects, but that dated special show is not guaranteed to remain installed. The broader sandy-land polder agricultural landscape is a different geographic resource; do not walk into farmland, seawall works or a separate protected structure just because it is associated with the same history.

Plan 2–3 hours plus a long transfer for the stated visitor focus. This is an editorial allowance; queues and a separately described county-city journey need their own buffer.

Admission evidence and product boundaries

Historic grounds, exhibition rooms, group tours and surrounding operational areas have different access.

The actual municipal reclamation-culture account, provincial official publicity and a recent Qidong visit report were checked. They establish the reconstructed-site nature and specific Haifu context, not today’s independent opening, exhibition fee, group appointment or passport workflow. Those fields remain unknown. Ask whether the visit includes the main company-history exhibition and any separate educational program. An organized official study route linking several reclamation locations does not create a visitor shuttle or one combined admission product.

A named alternative when the plan changes

If the main exhibition closes, an exterior-only courtyard view may not justify the long journey; move the specialist visit rather than replacing it with an unrelated seaside resort. Zhang Jian Hometown in Changle is a named thematic alternative, but it is a different Haimen locality and needs its own transport and admission. Nantong Museum is a broader city-context option on another day. In storms, do not use exposed coastal polders or seawall remains as a substitute for a closed indoor exhibition.
