What to look for at Lu Xun Native Place

Former homes, study spaces and the literary associations of the neighborhood make this the strongest first Shaoxing heritage visit. Give the house interpretation time before browsing nearby shops.

Distinguish the ancestral residence, the family home and Baicao Garden, Sanwei Study, and the Lu Xun Memorial Museum. The municipal heritage profile explicitly identifies the preserved residential/study buildings; the provincial tourism authority’s March 2024 report also notes that the famous ‘early’ desk was displayed in the memorial museum, so do not assume an object photographed in an old classroom is the original currently in that room. Read the house layout alongside the writer’s childhood and later life rather than treating the whole commercial street as one museum.

Build a route that ends at the right place

Confirm the official session and precise house entrances, follow the main residence-and-school route and leave a break before Shen Garden.

Confirm the actual reserved buildings and start with the family-home/garden or study entrance assigned to your session. Follow the permitted circulation through domestic rooms. The official visitor guide currently marks the biographical memorial museum closed for upgrading, so do not make that display an essential stop; its confirmed reopening was not found. The Literature Edition Museum opened on 19 October 2026, according to the next day’s provincial report: rare editions and translations make it an interesting additional focus, but it has its own entrance/access check and is not automatically included in a house reservation. Keep Shen Garden as a separately admitted nearby visit after a meal.

Plan 3–4 hours for the stated visitor focus. This is an editorial allowance; queues and a separately described county-city journey need their own buffer.

Admission evidence and product boundaries

The public street, reserved historic houses, exhibitions, guiding and nearby attractions may have separate controls.

The actual operator visitor guide requires free timed advance reservation through the official Shaoxing Cultural Tourism Group or Shaoxing Lu Xun Memorial WeChat account. It limits one booking per registered phone per day and up to five visitors per booking; missing the booked period requires rebooking. Its stated entry checks name mainland ID or pre-enrolled facial recognition, without a completed foreign-passport/manual route. Passport handling and advance-release rules therefore remain unknown. Call 0575-85132080 about original-passport admission, and do not assume a guide purchase or public-street access admits every controlled building.

A named alternative when the plan changes

If residence slots are unavailable, keep permitted Lu Xun Middle Road public space and move the interiors to another confirmed session. The new Literature Edition Museum is a named alternative only after its independent entry is established. Cangqiao Straight Street offers a different canal/architecture walk in suitable weather; Shaoxing Museum’s new Jinghu venue requires a separate transfer and admission check. Do not use a residential side doorway or assume a boat can bypass a controlled museum entrance.
