How to plan Shaoxing

Canal lanes and literary houses, calligraphy at Lanting and separate trips to Keqiao, Zhuji or Xinchang. Stay near the city-center sights if most of your trip is urban; choose an overnight nearer an outlying excursion when that removes repeated long transfers. A municipality name can cover several county cities, hills and coastlines, so the five-day plan offers choices by geography rather than a compulsory checklist.

Five days with realistic transfers

Day 1: Literary old city

Prioritize reserved Lu Xun houses and a separate Shen Garden visit. The official visitor guide currently lists the biographical memorial museum as closed for upgrading; a confirmed reopening was not found. The Literature Edition Museum opened 19 October 2026 is a separate venue with its own access. A short Cangqiao Street route is optional after giving interiors enough time.

Day 2: Jinghu collection and an optional old-city return

Give Shaoxing Museum’s new February 2026 Jinghu/Meishan venue a substantial session. The old Pianmen/Fushan museum address is not the new entrance. Allow a separate transfer and meal before choosing the Yellow Wine Museum or Calligrapher’s Quarter; these are optional, independently admitted visits.

Day 3: Calligraphy and early heritage

Choose Lanting as the main excursion and one compatible heritage stop only with transport and sessions confirmed. East Lake is a separate landscape alternative.

Day 4: Keqiao water towns

Choose Keyan as a substantial multi-part scenic visit or Anchang as a slower water-town day. Combining both needs an early start and real transfer time.

Day 5: Zhuji or Xinchang

Choose Zhuji Xishi heritage or Wuxie waterfalls, or a separate Xinchang Great Buddha/Nineteen Peaks trip. These are independent day excursions, not a single loop.

Admission and foreign-passport preparation

Open the individual visit guides to check which venue or area your ticket covers. Confirm current opening hours, prices, reservations and the passport process through the venue’s official channel before you go. Bring the original passport used for booking and save your confirmation offline. If the form only accepts a mainland ID, ask the venue how overseas visitors should book. Check eligibility before relying on a discount or walk-up ticket, and confirm whether a tour or guided activity includes admission.

Weather, closures and alternatives

Spring and autumn; summer heat and wet stone lanes affect walking. Keep an indoor collection day movable, but independently confirm that museum’s session and admission. When a boat, lift, ridge or waterfront closes, follow the official shortened route or change the day; do not replace it with an unofficial operator.
