What to look for at Shaoxing Museum
Regional collections connect ancient Yue history with Shaoxing’s later urban culture. The new museum in Jinghu opened in February 2026; prioritize its main permanent galleries before temporary displays.
Plan for the new building at the northern foot of Meishan in Jinghu New Area, opened for trial operations 9 February 2026. The museum-authored opening report gives the seven-part One Yue, Ten Thousand Years history sequence, moving from natural geography and early Yue communities through the Yue kingdom, Kuaiji, later urban development and modern Shaoxing. A chronological selection plus either the bronze-mirror or painting/calligraphy focus is more manageable than attempting every gallery. Digital images of objects from other museums are not the same as those originals being on display here.
Build a route that ends at the right place
Confirm the new Jinghu venue and session, follow a selective chronological route and allow a separate transfer for any old-city neighborhood afterward.
Confirm the new Jinghu venue in your destination pin and allow its own journey; the older 75 Pianmen Straight Street/Fushan museum address appears in historical pages and must not be treated as the current new-building entrance. Start with the main permanent orientation, give the Yue/Kuaiji sequence time and add one independently open thematic room. The seven permanent halls and special/digital spaces are a substantial collection outing. Return to Cangqiao or the Calligrapher’s Quarter only as a separate old-city transfer after a meal, not a doorstep continuation.
Plan 3–4 hours plus Jinghu transfer for the stated visitor focus. This is an editorial allowance; queues and a separately described county-city journey need their own buffer.
Admission evidence and product boundaries
General collection entry, temporary exhibitions, lectures and activities may differ.
The actual museum-authored February opening report and the museum’s certified 2 April 2026 Weibo visitor notice were read. That notice says individual visitors may enter without reservation using an ID/social-security card and groups reserve separately; its extended hours and guide sessions specifically concern 4–6 April, so they are not copied as October hours. A current ordinary-session notice and foreign-passport/manual registration were not verified. Those remain unknown; confirm the new building’s individual procedure rather than following old-museum transport advice or assuming a mainland-card gate explains passport admission.
A named alternative when the plan changes
If a special gallery closes, retain the confirmed main history sequence or another open thematic room. If the whole new venue is unavailable, move the collection session. China Yellow Wine Museum offers a different specialist history visit after its own building and admission are checked; Cangqiao Straight Street is a fair-weather old-city architecture option. The old museum building is not a guaranteed substitute simply because an old map pin remains online. Preserve the Jinghu return buffer instead of trying to rescue the day by rushing several unrelated museums.
