Choose Sixi, rather than an undefined county-wide bridge tour
Taishun’s covered bridges are scattered across a mountainous county. For a first independent visit, make Sixi Town (泗溪镇) the clear destination and focus on Beijian Bridge (北涧桥) and Xidong Bridge (溪东桥, also listed as Dongxi Bridge/东溪桥). The county’s heritage introduction places Beijian in Xiaqiao village and Xidong in Xidong village, both in Sixi. This is a practical cluster; it does not place every famous Taishun bridge within the same short walk.
The reason to visit is the relationship between the timber bridge, its roofed social space, the stream and the village approach. Look from permitted bank-side positions at the structure spanning the water, then compare that with the view inside the covered passage. The experience is more revealing than standing only at the most photographed façade.
A slow two-bridge route
Start with Beijian Bridge. Walk its permitted approach and first look at the whole structure from the public village side. Give other bridge users room and avoid turning the passage into a long stationary photography session. The covered space is part of a living settlement, not an empty exhibition hall.
Continue to Xidong/Dongxi Bridge using signed public lanes or a locally confirmed transfer. Here compare the central raised roof form and village setting with the first bridge. Do not assume that a dashed line on a tourist image is a maintained pedestrian connection. Ask the visitor point to confirm the route, especially after rain or repair work.
Allow three to four hours for the Sixi cluster, including pauses, and keep the much longer journey from central Wenzhou outside that allowance. An overnight in Taishun can make more sense than racing back after adding several remote bridges. If arranging a car, specify Sixi and both bridge names rather than only “Taishun Covered Bridges.”
What belongs to a different excursion
The county heritage page separately places Shishui Stepping Stones (仕水碇步) in Shiyang Town (仕阳镇). They are a different crossing type and a different locality. They should not be used as the next walking segment of the Sixi bridge pair. Likewise, a stay in the wider covered-bridge/hot-spring resort does not prove that every bridge, exhibition or hot-spring product is included.
The official pages checked describe the heritage and a Sixi visitor-service stop but do not establish a current unified ticket, reservation release time or foreign-passport workflow. Those fields remain unknown. Confirm whether your planned visit concerns public village approaches, a controlled bridge section, an exhibition or a paid activity.
Closures and realistic alternatives
If one bridge is restricted for conservation, ask whether the other bridge and its public village approaches are open; a smaller Sixi visit can still be worthwhile. In flood warnings or severe rain, leave the stream crossings altogether. Shishui Stepping Stones are not a safe weather substitute. Use another confirmed Taishun indoor stop or move the excursion and retain Wenzhou Museum for a separately planned city day.
