Why choose it

Prince Kung’s Mansion, officially Prince Kung’s Palace Museum, offers courtyard residences, exhibitions and a landscaped garden in one compact visit. It is a good choice when you want Qing-era elite life without the Palace Museum’s scale. Allow two to three hours, longer if you join a guided tour.

Book and budget for passport exchange

Standard admission is CNY40. Real-name booking opens ten days before the visit at 20:00 Beijing time through the official ticket website or the museum’s WeChat channel. Select the correct passport or other document type and enter the details exactly as shown on the original ID. Each accepted ID can purchase one admission per visit day.

Passport holders cannot simply use the domestic second-generation ID reader. On arrival, take the original passport to the General Service Office and collect an admission credential before ticket checking. Build this extra step into your arrival time.

The current Chinese official ticket rules are the basis for these editorial translations. Some older English ticket wording differs on order limits and administrative deadlines, so use the current Chinese rules when there is a conflict.

What the ticket covers

The current price list describes one standard museum admission and does not list a separate mandatory garden ticket. Do not confuse this site with the Palace Museum: their tickets are completely separate. Special performances or events can have their own arrangements; check the event notice and do not assume that ordinary museum admission includes them.

The official FAQ allows same-day online purchase before 16:00 if a ticket is available. This is a fallback, not a reason to leave a busy-date visit until arrival, and it is never a guarantee of entry.

Opening, entry and transport

Normal hours are 08:30–17:00. Ticket sales stop at 16:00 and last entry is 16:10. The museum closes on Mondays except statutory holidays. Check its announcement list for weather or event closures.

Use Gate 1. The Visitor Service Center is inside Gate 1 to the east and provides consultation and luggage storage. Dangerous items and fire sources are prohibited, and the whole museum is smoke-free, including e-cigarettes. Expect steps, uneven historic surfaces and rockeries; climbing is prohibited.

Take Metro Line 6 to Beihai North, Exit B. The museum’s official route follows Sanzuoqiao Hutong for about 200 metres or Longtoujing Street for about 300 metres to Gate 1. Public transport is strongly preferable because nearby parking is extremely limited.

If the plan fails

  • No advance ticket: use the official website to choose another date or check whether a same-day purchase remains possible before 16:00. Do not buy an unofficial “guaranteed” slot.
  • Closed: move a Monday plan to Tuesday or another published opening day. For a temporary closure, follow the specific official notice and original-channel refund instructions rather than travelling to Gate 1.
  • Document or verification failure: go to the General Service Office inside Gate 1 and explain whether the passport is unreadable, details mismatch or the original is missing. Staff must decide what can be verified; a phone photo is not a guaranteed substitute. Ticket support is 010-83286859 (08:20–17:00), and visitor services are 010-83288149 on opening days 08:30–16:30.

Offline fallback card

  • No advance ticket: check the official site for another date or an available same-day purchase before 16:00; availability is not guaranteed.
  • Closed: move a Monday plan to another published opening day and check current temporary-closure and refund instructions before travelling.
  • Document failure: go to the General Service Office inside Gate 1 and call 010-83286859 if needed; do not assume a passport photo alone will be accepted.
