Save 东阳木雕, Dongyang woodcarving, and 中国木雕博物馆. Jinhua tourism describes the museum’s historical, everyday-life and contemporary woodcarving displays, including related bamboo craft. 东阳木雕小镇, Woodcarving Town, is another craft setting with studios and educational activity. Check the exact venue rather than treating the museum, trading complex and town as one entrance.
Look at how the surface is built
Compare the depth of a carved panel, the transitions between foreground and background and how the wood grain contributes to the design. Ask which examples are hand-carved, assembled, reproduced or contemporary interpretations. A museum route can help you understand architectural and domestic uses before entering a showroom. You do not need to buy a large object to make the visit worthwhile.
Arrange a realistic beginner session
A municipal account describes education partnerships and planned facilities in Woodcarving Town. Those are not a current booking offer. If you want to make something, ask a named studio what a visitor actually does and which tools are used under supervision. Confirm the project, instructor, language, age conditions and time. A decorative assembly or painting task is different from carving with cutting tools.
Consider the size before purchasing
For a finished piece, ask for its wood type, dimensions, construction and maker or production description. Establish whether it can fit your luggage and what professional packing costs. Delivery, insurance, customs paperwork and any restrictions on the material require separate checking; a shop’s willingness to sell does not settle the onward journey. Keep a written description and itemized receipt.

Ask about the venue, task and handover. Check the return from Dongyang to your actual base before adding Luzhai or another stop. If no studio session can be confirmed, choose the collection and a shorter cultural visit. Hengdian is a substantial separate option, so do not retain it merely because it also appears under the Jinhua city edition.
