5 days / one flexible framework

Five days in Guangzhou: old-city history and the Pearl River axis

A first-trip route that separates public districts from reserved interiors, protects a full day for Baiyun Mountain or Chimelong, and keeps weather and closure fallbacks.

Make this route your own

Use these days as a starting point and adjust the pace to suit you. Check the linked attraction guides for reservations and closures, and allow a full day for longer outings. Confirm weather and tickets before setting off.

Choose one route for each day with alternatives below. Only its listed stops are imported. Optional stops stay in the guide, and opening days still need checking for your dates.

DAY1

Yuexiu Park / Jiefang North Road / Dongfeng Middle Road

The Yuexiu historic axis

Planner route: The Yuexiu historic axis.

Planner stops: Yuexiu Park and Guangzhou Museum + Museum of the Nanyue King — Tomb Exhibition Area.

Places mentioned in this day's guide:

  1. Morning: walk a selective Yuexiu Park route and visit Guangzhou Museum’s Zhenhai Tower during its confirmed opening session; park access does not include the museum.
  2. Late morning or afternoon: use the separate Tomb Exhibition Area ticket for the Museum of the Nanyue King at 867 Jiefang North Road. Do not go to the Palace site with this ticket.
  3. Afternoon: add Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall only if its current official daytime access is confirmed; otherwise keep the exterior and park time flexible.
If the plan changes

Guangzhou Museum and both Nanyue King exhibition areas normally close on Monday except statutory holidays. On Monday or in heavy rain, retain only confirmed open interiors; if the memorial is unavailable, the outdoor park and a valid Tomb ticket still form a coherent day.

DAY2

Liwan / Yide Road / Beijing Road

Xiguan, Shamian and Beijing Road

These are alternatives. The planner adds only the stops in your chosen option.

Places mentioned in this day's guide:

  1. Morning: visit Chen Clan Ancestral Hall only after confirming current tickets and avoiding its Tuesday closure, then walk Yongqing Fang’s public lanes. The Cantonese Opera Art Museum needs its own access check.
  2. Afternoon: explore Shamian’s open historic streets, then stop at Sacred Heart Cathedral only if the active church currently permits tourist entry.
  3. Late afternoon or evening: finish in Beijing Road’s public district. Add the Nanyue King Palace Exhibition Area only with its separate reservation and within its opening hours.
If the plan changes

This is deliberately too many interiors to guarantee. Drop any venue with unconfirmed access and keep the open lanes. Chen Clan Ancestral Hall closes on Tuesday except statutory holidays; cathedral and opera-museum closures do not close Shamian or Yongqing Fang’s public streets. In storms, shorten the walks and use only confirmed indoor admissions.

DAY3

Zhujiang New Town / Huacheng Square / Canton Tower

Provincial collections and the new central axis

These are alternatives. The planner adds only the stops in your chosen option.

Places mentioned in this day's guide:

  1. Morning: enter Guangdong Museum at the west gate with the original ID and free real-name reservation. Keep three to four hours for selected galleries.
  2. Late afternoon: walk Huacheng Square toward the river, allowing for heat and any event perimeter. Nearby venues and Haixinsha events are not covered by the museum reservation.
  3. Evening: use a separately purchased Canton Tower product if visibility and the exact operating session are suitable; otherwise enjoy the public-axis views.
If the plan changes

Guangdong Museum normally closes Monday except statutory holidays, and no-reservation walk-in entry should not be assumed. If the museum fails, rebook and keep the outdoor axis; if tower weather is poor, skip the paid ascent. Special-event controls require an official diversion, not an attempt to cross the perimeter.

DAY4

Baiyun or Panyu

Choose Baiyun Mountain or a full Chimelong day

These are alternatives. The planner adds only the stops in your chosen option.

Places mentioned in this day's guide:

  1. Outdoor option: protect four to six hours for Baiyun Mountain, choose a South Gate route and confirm separate garden, summit, cableway and shuttle products plus the final descent.
  2. Resort option: protect the full day for one selected Chimelong park and buy its exact dated official product. A hotel, circus or different park ticket is not automatically interchangeable.
  3. Evening: leave unbooked after either option; only add a Chimelong circus when its separate official showtime and the day’s energy make sense.
If the plan changes

Do not attempt both. In severe rain, thunderstorms or high winds, replace the outdoor day with Guangdong Museum or another confirmed indoor venue and move the outdoor booking under its official rules. A ride, shuttle or cableway suspension does not make another component ticket valid.

DAY5

Panyu or Huangpu / Changzhou Island

Shawan or a Whampoa-themed alternative

These are alternatives. The planner adds only the stops in your chosen option.

Places mentioned in this day's guide:

  1. Default option: allow three to five hours plus transport for Shawan Ancient Town’s public lanes and one or two confirmed heritage interiors; individual venues may have separate tickets and hours.
  2. Alternative: choose the Whampoa Military Academy memorial on Changzhou Island and, only after checking its own hours and reservations, the Xinhai Revolution Memorial. Confirm island transport and last return connections before departure.
  3. Keep the final schedule lighter than a theme-park day and avoid adding Canton Tower or Chimelong as a rushed cross-town finish.
If the plan changes

Shawan is an open scenic area but its interiors can close independently; continue the public-lane route or reschedule in heavy rain. For the Huangpu option, a museum closure or transport problem makes it unsafe to assume the other venue remains open—check both official notices and retain a central-city museum fallback with valid admission.
