The visitor focus
Ponds, lanes and clan buildings form a village landscape associated with Zhuge descendants. The interest is in spatial layout and surviving domestic architecture.
A specific route
Zhuge Village is a later settlement associated with descendants of Zhuge Liang, not a surviving Three Kingdoms camp designed by the strategist himself. The dedicated official account places its foundation in the Yuan period and most surviving buildings in the Ming and Qing periods. Keep that chronology clear when reading the clan story: the architectural village and its relationship to a much earlier historical figure are different kinds of evidence.
Travel directly to the village, follow a signed central circuit and select open clan or residential displays without entering occupied houses.
Entry and component boundaries
The taiji-shaped central pond is the most useful orientation point. Begin there, compare the radiating or connecting lanes with the village’s bagua explanation, then choose one manageable route through admitted public spaces. The appeal lies in the relationship between the plan, communal buildings and domestic scale rather than in racing to every architectural marker. A photographed doorway is not proof of a public interior, and an intricate lane pattern is a reason to retain a clear return anchor rather than cut through an occupied courtyard.
Village entry, specific historic halls, guides and activities may have separate conditions.
If access or weather changes
Allow a substantial half-day including the final Lanxi transfer and any separately controlled interiors. Ask which historic buildings are open on the actual date, and distinguish an ancestral ceremony from a scheduled tourist performance. If a desired hall is unavailable, the public village context may still be worthwhile, but it does not authorize entry around a closed door. Youbu is a named alternative elsewhere in Lanxi, offering a different settlement story through morning tea and photographic culture; plan it with its own journey rather than assuming the two old towns share an entrance or ticket.
Allow 4–5 hours plus transfer for the stated focus; the route is an editorial planning estimate, with separate district/county transfers outside that allowance.
