Pan'an Lake Wetland

Read the lake as a repaired industrial landscape

Pan’an Lake is in Jiawang, northeast of central Xuzhou. The provincial ecology authority describes it as a former coal-mining subsidence area transformed through a combination of farmland consolidation, reclamation, ecological repair and wetland tourism. That history is the most distinctive reason to come: compare the broad water and planted edges with the account of how damaged mining land was reshaped, rather than treating this as simply another ornamental city lake.

The official locator is north of National Highway 310, Pan’an Lake Subdistrict, Jiawang District. Use that locality when arranging transport. A pin for Yunlong Lake would take you to a different lake landscape in the main city. A visit to Pan’an Lake should therefore keep its own outward and return journey instead of being added after a long Yunlong Hill climb.

A selective half-day on site

First, confirm the operating visitor entrance and photograph the current map. Identify the open main-shore paths and your return point before starting; a wetland map can make islands and distant banks appear more connected on foot than they are. Spend the first part of the visit understanding the reclamation story through any confirmed open interpretation, then walk one continuous permitted waterfront section.

Next, pause at accessible planted margins and look for the transition between recreation space and areas managed for ecological purposes. This is a good setting for patient observation rather than a promise of a particular bird species. Do not leave paths to reach a better waterside photograph or treat a closed boardwalk as an invitation to cross reeds.

Only then decide whether an operating official boat adds something worth its queue and fare. Check its destination, landing and final return before buying; it must not become the only unverified link back to your original gate. Allow about three to four hours on site, with travel outside that estimate, and shorten the circuit when heat or wind makes exposed banks tiring.

What the actual official visitor source establishes

The ecology authority’s page, published 23 April 2024, gives an educational-practice visit and the reservation telephone 0516-69820808. It describes seasonal visiting hours and says appointments are accepted. That is useful for asking about the ecological-transformation program; it is not sufficient evidence that every independent park visitor must reserve, that a boat is included, or that the whole scenic area follows the educational program’s session.

Current general admission, boat products, release rules and foreign-passport handling therefore remain unknown here. Ask specifically whether you want the educational program, a land visit or a boat product, rather than requesting an unspecified “Pan’an Lake ticket.”

Named alternatives that preserve the day

If bad weather makes the wetland unsuitable, move this excursion and use Xuzhou Museum on a separately confirmed city session. For an easier fair-weather landscape, select a short Yunlong Lake shore section instead; it is a different geographic plan, not a nearby exit from Pan’an Lake. If a single wetland section closes but other paths remain officially open, keep a smaller out-and-back and retain your original return pickup.
